Cholla Driftwood is the dried husk of the Cholla Cactus which is commonly used in shrimp tanks. It provides excellent shelter for shrimp while also stimulating growth of bio-film which provides a source of food to shrimp and baby fish. It can also be used to attach different mosses, Marimo Balls, Buce, Anubias, or other plants to create a natural looking sunken log in your aquarium.
Driftwood can leech tannins which can cause a slight yellow or brown tint to your water. This is natural and the effects will reduce over time. Boiling the wood prior to use can decrease the tannins leeching.
This is a natural product so there is some variation in each piece. They are cut to 6 inches in length and approximately 1.5-2 inches in diameter.
Important note: This tunnel is best suited for freshwater shrimp or small fry. If you have larger, curious fish or other fauna (such as a betta fish) that may try to explore such small crevices, there is a risk they may get caught or stuck in the tunnel. Please be mindful of this before placing in your aquarium.
Important note: We recommend rinsing wood thoroughly before adding it to an established aquarium. If you prefer, you may also boil the wood for at least 1-2 hours to help release tannins.
