Cholla Driftwood is the dried husk of the Cholla Cactus which is commonly used in shrimp tanks. It provides excellent shelter for shrimp while also stimulating the growth of bio-film which provides a source of food to shrimp and baby fish. It can also be used to attach different mosses, Marimo Balls, Buce, Anubias, or other plants to create a natural-looking sunken log in your aquarium.
Driftwood can leech tannins which can cause a slight yellow or brown tint to your water. This is natural and the effects will reduce over time. Boiling the wood before use can decrease the tannins leeching.
Important note: This tunnel is best suited for freshwater shrimp or small fry. If you have larger, curious fish or other fauna (such as a betta fish) that may try to explore such small crevices, there is a risk they may get caught or stuck in the tunnel. Please be mindful of this before placing in your aquarium.
Important note: We recommend rinsing wood thoroughly before adding it to an established aquarium. If you prefer, you may also boil the wood for at least 1-2 hours to help release tannins.
